Hi, I am Amy, a UX Researcher

Currently, I am a UX researcher at Citrix. If you need any help related to UX, welcome to email to yinganc@umich.edu and let's talk!

Why research?

Research helps keep focusing on users. With research, empathy has a solid base, and so does the design itself. Without research, we work with illusion and imagination. I want to have an impact, so I do research.

What do I do?

I guarantee users are at the center. I identify target users, needs and problems, investigate user behaviors, improve design solutions, validate design concepts and hypotheses, build information architecture, and assist design iteration.

How do I do it?

By using various research methods, I ask how and note down the process; I probe why and compose the stories behind. I think hard, dig deep, and verify with analysis and reflection. I apply empathy and love any user feedback.

My Work

Application Delivery Management: User Segments Study

About Me

I specialize in human-computer interaction (HCI) at the School of Information, University of Michigan. I study user behaviors and understand their needs with qualitative research methods. As a UX Researcher, I am specifically interested in how technology affects people's productivity and wellness in their daily life.

Capability

I am a UX Researcher capable of leading and executing UX research study either independently or collaboratively. I have 5+ years of experience with different parts of the research process, including:

  • Study Design
  • Participants Recruitment
  • Study Execution
  • Data Analysis
  • Report Writing
  • Presentation of Findings and Design Recommendations

Philosophy

I do research because I believe the impact it brings. You can say I am skeptical because I am. I don't believe the problem can be solved when no one knows what the problem is. As a researcher, I help people to see what is really going on and what others are doing. By doing research, I can assure the design meets the needs. I believe there is neither a "stupid user" nor a "bad design," but only miss-matching of the two. Therefore, when people complain, I listen and see the chance.

Personality

People use "Curious, Deep, and Reflective" to describe me. I love to be with people, talk to people, and listen to people. Nothing can be more interesting than people and their stories. As a team player, I am a responsible, organized, and people-oriented person. And I enjoy working both individually and on a team. Furthermore, I love to work and make things work out while being goofy. Humor and laughing are two things will and shall never disappear in my life :)
